’Twas the night before Expo, the hall calm and bare,
No freebies in sight, not a goody bag to spare.
The lanyards were stacked by reception with care,
In hopes eager networkers soon would be there.
Exhibitors dreaming (not quite of sleep),
But of leads they could chase—and new clients to keep.
With pitches rehearsed for hundreds of guests,
And smiles well-practised (we can do only our best).
When out in the foyer there rose such a clatter,
I sprang from my inbox to see what was the matter.
Away to the venue I flew up the A3,
Past pop-ups and posters telling me entry was free.
With clipboards and headsets, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment this Expo would click.
More rapid than emails, the organisers came,
And they whistled and shouted and called them by name:
“Now Hannah! Now Steve! And of course, our two Paul`s!
On Signage! On Seating! There is still work to do!
To the top of the hall! To the front of Sandown Park!
Let’s get our show ready before it gets dark!”
By morning, the doors opened wide with a grin,
And many a business owner came flooding right in.
The chatter, the laughter, the handshakes with buddies
The buzz of real people– not virtual calls from the study!
From Lawyers to Printers, they all came along.
The Networking Lounge full of music and song.
The Expo was a hit – mixing business and fun
But before we knew it, the day was all done.
And as we were leaving- I heard someone say:
“New Business and Friendships make this a great day.!
